Trump is tapping Deputy Secretary of Protection Patrick Shanahan to exchange Mattis as appearing Pentagon chief.
“I’m happy to announce that our very gifted Deputy Secretary of Protection, Patrick Shanahan, will assume the title of Performing Secretary of Protection beginning January 1, 2019,” Trump tweeted. “Patrick has an extended listing of accomplishments whereas serving as Deputy, & beforehand Boeing. He might be nice!”
